Most backyard patios are just rectangles. A square pad, maybe a circle. Nothing wrong with that - but when a homeowner wants something that actually fits their yard and reflects their style, that's where things get interesting. This Maple Grove homeowner had a specific vision, and we built it out.
The shape here is what makes it stand out. A smooth, eye-shaped outline flows around the perimeter, bordered by a darker charcoal paver that frames the whole thing cleanly. The interior field is laid in a running herringbone-style pattern using light grey pavers with natural stone texture. The contrast between the field and the border is subtle but sharp - exactly the kind of detail that separates a well-done patio from a forgettable one.
One thing we focus on with any curved patio like this is getting the border cuts precise. Curves are unforgiving. A sloppy cut on a straight patio can hide. On a shape like this, every edge is on display. We take the extra time to get each cut right because the finished product has to hold up under scrutiny - and this one does.
Getting a custom shape like this right starts long before the first paver goes down. The grading, the base compaction, the layout - all of it has to be dialed in early. If the foundation isn't right, no amount of nice-looking stone on top will save it. That's why we spend as much time on what's underneath as we do on the surface.
The homeowner was happy - and honestly, reactions like that are the whole point. A patio like this gets used. It becomes the spot for summer evenings, fire pits, and family time. That's what makes a job like this worth doing right.
