A lot of Plymouth homeowners deal with the same problem along their foundation - bare dirt or mulch that erodes, holds moisture, and just looks unfinished. This house needed something low-maintenance that would also protect the foundation perimeter. River rock was the right call.
We went with 2 to 4 inch river rock and ran it around the full perimeter of the house. That size range is intentional. Smaller rock tends to scatter and kick into the lawn over time. Larger rock in that 2-4 inch range stays put, allows water to drain through quickly, and keeps moisture from sitting up against the foundation.
The edging detail matters a lot on a job like this. Clean metal edging runs along the lawn side to keep the rock contained and give the border a sharp, defined line where it meets the grass. No rock creeping into the lawn. No grass creeping into the rock bed.
River rock is one of the most practical low-maintenance landscaping choices you can make. No mulch to replace every year, no weeds taking hold as easily, and it handles water better than most alternatives. For a house foundation, it does real work - not just decorative work.
Big thanks to this Plymouth homeowner - and their dog - for having us out. This one came together really nicely.
